I need to buy a new motherboard but I'm limit to socket 775 due to CPU, I boil down to 4 motherboards but I do not know exactly what to choose:
Should I choose the one with the max limit of 4GB of DDR3 RAM? Or the 8GB limit DDR2? I have windows XP home edition 32bit which already limits me to around 3.6GB of ram. |

I would get 4GB DDR3, Your only using 32bit Operating System so no point in 8GB, plus you can always reuse the DDR3 in any possible future upgrade.
And of course ddr3 is better ![]()

Throw out your old 775 cpu and get a socket 1155 one and M/B to go with it
your spending good $$$ after bad... get a $5 used M/B if you need to stick with your 775...people should be throwing those into the trash can wholesale now because those are nearly obsolete. Make sure it takes whatever style ram you hve now(ddr2 or ddr3)

Ditto Vampress says
If you have a microcenter near you, you can get an i5 2500k for $179.00 Combo deal wth a Z68 Mobo is $50 off and memory is cheap as hell. |

I'm from europe so good PC components are not common or do have the same prices has the ones on US.
I just have around 150 USD to spend on a Motherboard, Ram and a Sata Harddrive. CPU are not that important for games Dual Core can more than handle most if not all games , RAM and Graphics card play the biggest role here. |

So you can have a 4 core 3Ghz he will only use one core, so in theory a single core with 3,06 GHZ is better in this game than a 4 Core 2,8 Ghz Last edited by fxmmauser; 04-23-2012 at 09:57 AM.. |

For starters, the game runs on one-and-a-bit cores. Then there's the background windows stuff which can be relegated to a third. Technically, three cores is about best. Then there's the issue that newer CPU's give more grunt per clock cycle than older ones. for example. My old E8500 and my newer I7 920 both overclocked and stable running at 3.8 ghtz. The first had two cores, the second had 4. But both at same speed. Yes, not all the cores in the I7 were in use, BUT. The i7 920 blitzed the e8500 in game FPS. Absolutely left it for dead. A newer I7 2600 is better still. Even at the same clock speed. There's a lot of reasons why this is so... and I'm not going into them here. But trust me. 775 is a waste to spend money on unless its a secondhand M/b to tide you over for a while until you can afford a decent system. There was a really good article on Toms hardware a year or two ago comparing PC architecture... they took half a dozen different systems and forced them all to run on one core at the same speed to see what actual work each would do... and it illustrates my point exactly. , for me getting always 35 fps in medium high is enough I don't need 100 fps max settings.I have done a lot of upgrades on a couple of pcs and the difference in gameplay when upgrading RAM or a Graphics Cards is way greater than getting a new CPU. You can have a great graphics card, some really good ram and an old dual core CPU you will be able to play alot of games with good settings but if you have a top notch CPU and a ****ty ram and Graphics Card I doubt you will be even able to play anything. Unfortunately I have to choose and can't have a new brand top notch PC.. My dual core E7600 3.06Ghz can still run the game and my light Windows XP 32bit it never gets over 52%. |

In this game CPU does all the difference - Grafic-card will do nothing compare to a better Cpu.
Get an intel 2500K-system and overclock it and use old graficcard - will do soo much better in this game. |

Yeah, so long as your vid card [and RAM] is adequate, CPU is king.
Unless you are trying to run an absurdly high resolution. Then graphics card quality is more important. For the typical, one screen system, the best CPU you can get, with an adequate graphics card, is best. |
